Alps Alpine Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 6770; President & CEO: Toshihiro Kuriyama) has entered into a strategic partnership with Sensirion Holding AG (Stäfa, Switzerland; CEO: Marc von Waldkirch), a leading manufacturer of digital microsensors and sensor systems. The aim of the agreement, signed in April 2020, is further expansion of environmental sensor business.

In a world increasingly focused on initiatives such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and use of environmental, social and governance (ESG) evaluation criteria, there is growing need for environmental sensing of parameters like humidity and temperature and levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and particulate matter (PM2.5), as well as efficient and effective tools for controlling systems and equipment based on captured data.

Sensirion has broad experience with environmental sensing devices, particularly in developing and producing high-performance humidity and temperature sensors, and enables integrated sensing solutions with its original CMOSens® Technology*1. Alps Alpine has entered into a strategic partnership with Sensirion that will combine Sensirion technology with Alps Alpine data communication technology and expertise in software and system development and other areas of module creation to deliver industry-leading humidity and temperature sensor modules for automotive, major appliance and industrial equipment markets.

Further ahead, the partnership might result in the creation of a wide variety of other environmental sensors, too. Sensing products for measuring levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), CO2 and particulate matter, such as PM2.5, would help address challenges faced by end-product manufacturers and lend support to environmental protection efforts.

Through the partnership, Alps Alpine intends to bolster its business towards attainment of its ITC101*2 target and continue innovating value for humans and society on a brighter planet.

1. Technology enabling integration of sensor element, logic, calibration data and digital interface on a single chip
2. ITC101: Mid- to long-term target of becoming an Innovative T-shaped Company with 10% consolidated operating income and 1 trillion yen in sales
