Alpine Manufacturing to Close Akai Plant, Transfer Functions to Alps Alpine Onahama Plant

Alpine Manufacturing, Inc. (Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture; President: Masahiko Konno), producer of automotive infotainment system products and group company of Alps Alpine Co., Ltd. (TSE: 6770; President & CEO: Toshihiro Kuriyama), will close its Akai Plant in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture during fiscal 2022. Production functions and employees of the plant will transfer to Alps Alpine’s Onahama Plant, located in the same area, to resume production activities from October 2022.
Purpose
The Alps Alpine Group has five production bases in Fukushima Prefecture – two Alps Alpine bases (Onahama and Taira Plants) and three Alpine Manufacturing bases (Yoshima, Onomachi and Akai Plants). Each plant currently manufactures products of one of the business segments – electronic components or automotive infotainment systems – but moves are underway to integrate production functions and share expertise gained with their respective products to generate synergies such as enhanced technological capabilities and greater production efficiency.
