Expansion of Energy-Saving Devices Business Targeted
Alps Electric to Strengthen Shinagawa R&D Center
Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6770; President: Toshihiro Kuriyama; Head Office: Tokyo) is strengthening its Shinagawa R&D Center in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, as part of efforts to expand energy-saving devices business.
Alps Electric has taken active steps to advance its energy-savings business by working to establish structures for development activity in the Keihin (Tokyo–Yokohama) area, initially with the location of a related product development function at Alps Headquarters and the opening in October 2016 of the Shinagawa R&D Office. Additionally, energy-saving devices business targeting such applications as household equipment and appliances, automotive electronics and industrial equipment has been strengthened through a joint development and partnership agreement entered in September 2016 with power electronics engineering venture Headspring Inc. (President & CEO: Osamu Hoshino; Headquarters: Tokyo).
With sights on even further expansion of the energy-saving devices business, Alps Electric is renaming the Shinagawa R&D Office the “Shinagawa R&D Center” on May 1, 2018 and plans to grow the workforce to 50 from the current 13 over three years. Other measures include exploring alliance options with additional partners. Alps Electric aims to build an energy-saving devices business generating ¥10 billion sales annually during the next mid-term business plan period, spanning fiscal years 2019 to 2021.
