Alps Electric to Introduce Its Latest Gesture and Touch Input Devices for Automotive Use
Booth No.: E38–001
Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6770; President: Toshihiro Kuriyama; Head Office: Tokyo) will exhibit at the 10th International Automotive Electronics Technology Expo (CAR-ELE JAPAN) to introduce its latest capacitive input devices and a variety of other input, sensing and communication devices for automotive use. CAR-ELE JAPAN opens at Tokyo Big Sight on January 17, 2018.
Alps Electric will open a booth at CAR-ELE JAPAN, the world’s largest exposition specializing in automotive electronics, to present its latest core technologies and solutions for automotive applications in areas expected to gain prominence in the near future—advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs).
<Exhibit Highlights>
1. Capacitive Input Device for Automotive Use

Developed with autonomous cars in mind, this capacitive sensor enables gesture and touch input and control from not only the driver’s seat, but various parts of the cabin. The device contributes to a comfortable user experience by allowing accurate input, such as selection of menu options, without actually making direct contact with the touch panel. This is achieved using a highly sensitive capacitive sensor, an Alps-developed algorithm and original ASIC design.
Alps Electric will also present examples of solutions integrating the device with natural materials such as leather and wood, taking advantage of its excellent sensitivity and accuracy.
2. High-Precision Magnetic Sensors
These magnetic sensors are capable of detecting various states and conditions of vehicle body parts with high sensitivity. Employing Alps original sensing devices, the sensors achieve both high precision and high resolution while also enabling consistent sensing performance even in varying environments with low to high magnetic fields. Two types are available—rotary angle/stroke detection sensors and incremental output sensors. Examples of sensing for different applications will be introduced using actual demonstrations.
